St Swithun's Church of England Primary Academy
Valuing individuals, aspiring and achieving together in faith
St. Swithun’s School has its own kitchens and excellent meals of a high quality are served in a cafeteria system.
Here at St Swithun's we encourage all children to have a cooked school lunch. Our meals are made with fresh, tasty and high quality ingredients from local suppliers. Meals are free for ALL pupils in Foundation, Year 1 and Year 2 under the government Universal Infant FREE School Meals initiative. Our school kitchen has a 5 start hygiene rating. All children are able to choose daily whether they would like a school meal: for Keystage 2, these are currently priced at £2.75. A menu is displayed in the school dining hall and in the noticeboard outside. Please see the menu below for what is on offer:
If you have any questions, please speak to the school office or the school cook.
If it is preferred your child may bring a packed lunch.
The school adopts a healthy eating strategy and embeds its principles throughout the curriculum.
Our school aims to meet the needs of all children and ensure equality of provision whilst taking account of this diversity and difference.
On a daily basis the staff in school see what children have in their lunchboxes. Whilst supervising at lunchtimes, this is an opportunity for them to talk with the children about their lunchboxes and to encourage healthy eating and drinking.
It is not our intention to tell parents what and how they should be feeding their children and we will not do so, but we want to work with parents to educate our children about healthy eating and drinking. We have the best interests of all the children at heart.
We understand that some children can present challenges when it comes to eating and that it is a major step to get some children to eat anything at all. We would want parents to let us know if this is the case so that we can deal with such children sensitively and with encouragement and praise for what they have eaten.
As a school we promote 'Healthy Lunch boxes' and therefore children should not bring chocolate/chocolate bars, sweets, and other confectionary as part of a packed lunch. Exceptions could be: Cadbury Brunch Bars. The school does not permit fizzy drinks in bottles or cans as part of a packed lunch or for break time drinks.
If your child has not eaten enough of their lunch, we will wrap it up and send it home in their lunch box in order for you to see.
Treats that are sent into school to celebrate birthdays are allowed. Where possible these will be distributed at home time, so parents are able to monitor this.
If you receive Family Income Support you may apply for financial help with school meals. You can get the application forms from the school or https://www.nottinghamshire.gov.uk/education/school-meals/free-school-meals-and-milk. It is very important that if you are entitled to apply for free school meals that you should do so as soon as possible.
