British Science Week 2021
What an incredible week we have all had celebrating British Science Week 2021!
Throughout school we have been followed STEM planning to learn and explore Plants and Animals including Humans. You can find these resources and planning here: https://education.nfuonline.com/stemterprise
We have also been extremely excited to join Encounter Edu on their live channel to experience Lambing, Farm Robots, The Life Cycle of the Chicken and the role of a Farm Vet. If you missed out on this you can find the sessions here: https://www.youtube.com/user/DigitalExplorer
Each child also took home a bag that contained:
- A Biodegradable Plant Pot
- A Packet of seeds
- Instructions on how to grow the seed

Year 3/4 Science Week
This week in year 3/4 we have been investigating how plants grow.
This week we have been exploring parts of plants. We can now identify, name and explain the function of a flower and its reproductive parts. We really enjoyed joining the live sessions at Encounter Edu, discussing our new learning together and building on what we already knew, or thought we knew about farm animals.
We have been curious about how plants grow so we set up a range of experiments to explore these. We began with using Cress seeds to investigate requirements for growth. We then investigated how water is transported in plants using celery and food colouring. Our final growth based experiment was to discover if adding nutrients to soil increases the health or size of the plant.
Year 5/6 British Science Week
This Week Year 5/6 have been joining the live sessions and extending their understanding of Farm animals.
We have also been learning about the reproductive system in plants, being able to identify and name parts of a flowers reproductive system, to do this the children deconstructed a flower each and stuck the parts they found to their worksheet!
